Tecnologia Solar Concentradora S.L. is a R+D company sited in Palma de Mallorca, the Balearic Islands, Spain, created in 2006 with the objective of developing to a commercial scale the concept of the Fixed Mirror Solar Concentrator (FMSC). The main target markets were solar heating and cooling of large service buildings and process heat for industrial facilities.
The idea of using the FMSC concept to develop collector easily integrable into building roofs and capable of providing heat in the range of 100 to 200ºC originated from Hans Schweiger and Jaume Salom. At that moment both integrated in Aiguasol, an engineering firm from Barcelona specialized in solar thermal energy. The main technical partner of the project has been the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) through the Mechanical Engineering Group.
Private funding has been provided mainly by Domingo Muñoz, a touristic businessman from Mallorca. From its beginning the project has been co-funded with public funds from the Spanish government and from the regional governments of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
As of March 2011 the new collector design (the CCStaR collector) its being tested in real life conditions in a rural hotel in Mallorca and the next step forward is to start planning and installing new demonstration plants.
